Our first trip to Japan as a quartet was an enriching one, where we had the opportunity to perform on the world-class stage of Izumi Hall, meet inspiring artists from around the world, and take a glimpse into a fascinating culture. We are very grateful to the Japan Chamber Music Foundation for giving us this opportunity and were immensely inspired by their show of commitment to chamber music.

We are excited to announce that the American violinist Miki Nagahara joined our ranks in January 2023.

We would like to thank Jelena Galić for her many years of dedication to the quartet and wish her all the best for the future.

After only a week of rehearsals, we took part in the International String Quartet Competition of the Irene-Steels-Wilsing Foundation in Heidelberg on January 18th and took home the 3rd prize. We could not imagine a better beginning together!

“The composer Johannes Brahms once said that all he thinks about is music. He confessed: “I’m in love with music – I love music, I think of nothing but music and only think of other things when they make music more beautiful.” Such an unconditional and devoted love for music as Brahms probably felt, could also be experienced on Wednesday evening at the prizewinners’ concert of the ensemble scholarship…”

Winners of the Competition for the Ensemble-Scholarship for Chamber Music at the HfMDK

This exciting opportunity was offered to us by the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt. Three ensembles of high caliber, all students at the HfMDK, were chosen to play in front of a selection committee, who decided to award the Malion Quartet with a scholarship prize of
20 000€. We are enormously grateful to the HfMDK and the Friends and Sponsors of the University for creating such a wonderful scholarship specifically curated for musicians dedicated to making a career in chamber music.

A prize winners’ concert took place on 26th October 2022, in the großer Saal of the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.

Finalists and winners of a special prize at the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb

After an intensive few days in Bonn at the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb, we were honoured to have been given the opportunity to play in the final. We came away with a scholarship from the competition, which includes many concert opportunities throughout Germany for the Season 23/24, as well as a special prize from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.

Quartet in Residence in Holzhausenschlösschen

We are thrilled to have been selected as the “Quartet in residence” in Holzhausenschlösschen for the year 2023. This will include organising and playing five different concerts in this fantastic venue, in November next year. The first concert will take place as a pure string quartet concert; four further concerts in quintet formation with fantastic guest musicians. We would like to thank Clemens Greve, the director of the Frankfurter Bürgerstiftung, for offering us such a wonderful opportunity.
